With the release of Googles 4th Penguin spam fighting update, along comes the new 2.0 technology created with the intention of clamping down harder on spam.
The head of Googles web spam team Matt Cutts in a recent episode of “This week in Google” stated that within the next few hours the new Penguin would be rolling in as previously stated in an earlier video.
Matt stated that 2.3% of all English search queries will be effected by the newupdate. SEOs and Webmasters should brace themselves for a significant change to search results.
Matt released in his blog that the update is complete in English and non english languages and varies depending on the the amount of webspam relative to each language
Until now the first 3 penguin updates have used the same basic algorithm with minor adjustments, but the new penguin 4 is such a massive change that they are referring to it as penguin 2.0.
The updates so far are as follows:
Penguin 1 April 24 2012 effecting 3.1% of queries
Penguin 2 May 26 2012 effecting 0.1% of queries
Penguin 3 October 5 2012 effecting 0.3% of queries
Penguin 4 May 22 2013 effecting 2.3% of queries
Search results have not been this heavily impacted since the very first version of penguin which completely flipped the rules when it comes to making sure you are in the Google spotlight. Penguin 2.0 will effect Webmasters and SEOs even more so than original version.
